Entering the Fifth Year of the Coronavirus, Where Does Long COVID Stand?

Tens of millions of Americans have had long COVID, and the number will keep growing.

Much has changed since the World Health Organization first called COVID-19 a pandemic four years ago today. As the U.S. enters its fifth year with the coronavirus, vaccines are available and have been updated to more closely match the spreading variants. Treatments and tests for the coronavirus are accessible. The U.S. government relaxed its coronavirus guidance and officially ended its national emergency declarations in perhaps the largest symbolic step away from the pandemic.

But a big problem persists as long as the coronavirus continues to spread: long COVID.

Long COVID is a condition involving new, returning or ongoing health problems four or more weeks after initial coronavirus infection. Symptoms are wide-ranging and can include fatigue, difficulty thinking or concentrating, memory problems (or “brain fog”), difficulty breathing, joint or muscle pain, fast-beating or pounding heart, chest pain, dizziness after standing, menstrual changes, changes to taste and smell or inability to exercise.

Long COVID has no approved treatments or tests. While the condition is more common in people who had severe COVID-19, even people who were asymptomatic can develop it. Unlike the virus itself, which can run its course in a week or maybe two, long COVID – like its name suggests – can afflict a patient for weeks, months or even years. Its cause – or, more likely, causes – remain unknown.

And that has some people speaking out against authorities for not doing more.

Paul Hennessy of the grassroots activist group LC/DC, or Long COVID/(Washington) D.C., says that four years after the virus emerged, “it really seems like we’re kind of stuck in this limbo.” His group plans to gather both virtually and in person in Washington, D.C., on March 15 to bring attention to long COVID.

“The long COVID community and the COVID cautious community are pretty furious about it,” Hennessy says. “They don’t have the support they need, and there’s no FDA approved medications for it. I know there’s a few studies, but they’re very slow and underfunded. So those of us in the COVID cautious community really feel abandoned by the government and public health.”

More than 17% of U.S. adults reported having ever experienced symptoms of long COVID as of February, according to the Household Pulse Survey. Extrapolated to the U.S. population, it would mean more than 45 million adult Americans have had long COVID.

If true, it’s a startling number – and one that keeps growing.

Some are concerned that a recent guidance update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention could send the number even higher. The agency relaxed its isolation guidance for people who test positive for the coronavirus, recommending people can leave isolation 24 hours after their symptoms show improvement and they don’t have a fever. The previous guidance recommended a minimum five-day isolation period.

The new guidance moves recommendations for COVID-19 closer to the agency’s recommendations for flu. COVID-19, it should be noted, remains deadlier than the flu and is not yet considered seasonal like the flu.

“While still posing a significant health threat to those at higher risk, COVID-19 health impacts are now increasingly similar to other respiratory viruses, like flu, which are also important causes of illness and death, especially for people at higher risk,” the CDC said in a post explaining the new guidance.

Hunter Biden Reneges on Request to Testify in Public Hearing After House Republicans Grant His Wish

President Joe Biden’s eldest son, Hunter Biden, has declined an offer from House Republicans to appear at a public hearing, contradicting his previous requests for such a hearing.

The decision was communicated on Wednesday by Biden’s attorney Abbe David Lowell, who conveyed his client’s opposition to the previously-sought after event in a letter acquired by The Daily Caller.

“Your blatant planned-for-media event is not a proper proceeding but an obvious attempt to throw a Hail Mary pass after the game has ended. Let me remind you of a statement you made about how witnesses—and specifically Mr. Biden—could satisfy your prior requests,” Abbe David Lowell wrote.

“At your press conference after the January 10, 2024, Committee hearing to hold Mr. Biden in contempt, you stated: ‘All we need are people to come in for the depositions and then we’ll be finished. We just need people to show up to the depositions and we’ll wrap this up. Nobody wants to wrap this up more than I do.’ Mr. Biden did just as you asked and, as you did when you announced that witnesses could choose depositions, you want to ignore what you said,” Lowell added.

Lowell insisted that a condition for Biden’s public hearing attendance was an investigation into former President Donald Trump’s family business dealings by the House Republicans.

A source informed the Daily Caller about the sequence of receiving the letter.

President Joe Biden’s eldest son, Hunter Biden, has declined an offer from House Republicans to appear at a public hearing, contradicting his previous requests for such a hearing.

Lowell insisted that a condition for Biden’s public hearing attendance was an investigation into former President Donald Trump’s family business dealings by the House Republicans.

A source informed the Daily Caller about the sequence of receiving the letter.

“We just received it. They gave it to Punchbowl before providing it to Congress,” the source familiar said.

In response to the letter, Comer accused Hunter Biden of avoiding transparency.

“The House Oversight Committee has called Hunter Biden’s bluff. Hunter Biden for months stated he wanted a public hearing, but now that one has been offered alongside his business associates that he worked with for years, he is refusing to come … The American people demand the truth and accountability for the Bidens’ corruption,” Comer stated.

The controversy roots back to a subpoena issued by the House Oversight Committee in November, aimed at scrutinizing Hunter Biden’s foreign business transactions. Despite this, Biden opted for a public statement outside the Capitol, diverging from the scheduled closed-door deposition.

During a deposition on February 28, Hunter Biden, repeated he “did not recall” specific details of his foreign business engagements. Yet, he firmly stated his father’s non-involvement.

“I am here today to provide the committees with the one uncontestable fact that should end the false premise of this inquiry: I did not involve my father in my business, not while I was a practicing lawyer, not in my investments or transactions, domestic or international, not as a board member, and not as an artist, never,” Hunter Biden remarked in his opening testimony.

Presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is reportedly eyeing potential running mates, with New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and former professional wrestler and Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura at the forefront of his considerations.

Kennedy confirmed on Tuesday that Rodgers and Ventura are top contenders, although it remains unclear if formal offers have been extended.

Discussions are ongoing, and Kennedy continues to weigh a shortlist of candidates, sources familiar with the matter told The New York Times.

The independent candidate revealed ongoing conversations with Rodgers, noting a month-long dialogue, and with Ventura, who was introduced at a campaign event in Arizona last month.

Although there is no definitive confirmation on the composition of the RFK Jr. ticket, The Times reported the recent registration of the domain name kennedyrodgers.com.

While Kennedy had reportedly contemplated offering the position to figures like former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, Sen. Rand Paul, and Andrew Yang, talks with these individuals have either stagnated or they have declined the job, unlike the progress made with Rodgers and Ventura.

Rodgers, a vocal supporter of Kennedy’s candidacy, has engaged in continuous discussions with the candidate for the past month, per The Times.

Ventura, the former governor of Minnesota, expressed his efforts to steer RFK away from vaccine-related discussions in a November 2023 YouTube video. When asked about a potential VP offer, Ventura stated, “I would give it serious consideration, certainly.”

Social media responses reflected a mix of opinions regarding the potential presidential ticket.

Pedophiles Linked To John Podesta Have Been Arrested.

The Annex was a vast website where 100,000 pedophiles worldwide would ‘meet’ to share millions of videos and pictures of child sex abuse, on the dark web – a shadowy place, where sickening criminality was free to burgeon under the cover of anonymity. Three men, all very different, each unknown to each other in the real world, shared a depraved common interest online, swapping and facilitating the sharing of thousands of sick images and video content of children. The men that we’re talking about here were very much part of a team – a staff that you would expect to see within any business – that provided a platform and facilitated a community of pedophiles to encourage the abuse of children all over the world.
